Stay in touch with the home front
In sparsely populated areas and the national parks like Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Serengeti, the phone often does not work. On the route from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha or Moshi, Instagram and Whatsapp can probably be used with an eSIM. Driving from Arusha toward the Ngorongoro Crater, there is coverage. Further on towards the gate of the Serengeti and Lake Natron coverage becomes less. Above all, enjoy the safari and forward your photos later when there is network again at the lodge or tented camp.

What to do before your trip:

1. Check if your phone is eSIM compatible
2. Choose a provider (ETravelSim, Revolut, Airalo) they offer bundles in Tanzania
3. Choose a data bundle and purchase it through the provider’s app
4. Follow the provider’s instructions and install the eSIM

Benefits of an eSIM:

1. You don’t have to remove your regular SIM card
2. You are flexible because it is easy to switch between providers
3. You have access to local networks
4. You avoid roaming charges

Network providers in Tanzania are Vodacom, Airtel and Halotel. It is also possible to buy a SIM card at a local store and replace your regular SIM.
