Mkomazi National Park
Mkomazi National Park
Mkomazi National Park, pristine and full of contrasts
Mkomazi National Park is a hidden gem in northeastern Tanzania. This lesser-known park offers tranquility, space and a unique safari experience off the beaten track. The landscape is dry and rugged, with vast savannahs, acacia forests and views of the Pare Mountains. What makes Mkomazi truly special is the fact that here you have the chance to see black rhinos up close in the specially protected Rhino Sanctuary.
The park is also an important habitat for endangered species such as the African wild dog and the gerenuk – an antelope species with a remarkably long neck. Due to its location next to Tsavo National Park in Kenya, large groups of elephants and other migratory animals also pass through the area. Mkomazi is a park for travelers seeking silence, raw nature and extraordinary wildlife encounters.
Animals in Mkomazi National Park
The park is known for spotting the rare black rhinoceros. They live here under constant surveillance by rangers to protect them from poachers. Because the rhinos are protected 1-on-1, they have the opportunity to live freely here. Furthermore, you can spot giraffes, elephants, lions, (hunting) leopards, ostriches, zebras, gerenuks, buffaloes and wild dogs, among others, here. Thus, it is possible to spot the “Big Five” in this park. It is also a paradise for bird lovers.
