TYPES OF VISAS FOR TANZANIA

There are different types of visas that you can apply for, depending on the purpose and duration of your stay:

  • Tourist visa: This visa is the most requested by travelers who come to Tanzania for a holiday. The tourist visa is valid for 90 days and allows multiple entries to Tanzania within the applicable period.
  • Business visa: Travelers who go to Tanzania for meetings, conferences or other business activities need a business visa. This visa often has a shorter validity period, depending on the nature of your trip.
  • Transit visa: If you are traveling through Tanzania on your way to another destination, you can apply for a transit visa. This visa is usually valid for 7 days and is only granted if you can prove that you are traveling to another country.
  • Volunteer visa: For those who want to work as a volunteer in Tanzania, there is a special visa that allows you to stay in the country for a certain period of time.

HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR A VISA?

There are several ways to apply for a visa for Tanzania.

E-visa
Tanzania offers the possibility to apply for a visa online via their official e-visa portal: Tanzania eVisa – Welcome (immigration.go.tz). This is a quick and easy way to obtain your visa. You fill in an online form, upload the required documents, pay the visa fee of $50 and you will receive your E-visa by email.

Do not wait too long to apply, it takes about 14 days for the application to be completed, we recommend submitting your application at least four weeks before departure.

Visa on arrival
You can also buy a visa at the airport for $50 after you have landed. You should take into account a longer waiting line. You must pay for the visa in cash and in US Dollars. It is not possible to use your debit card at the airport in Tanzania.

VISA APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Before you start the digital application, make sure you have saved a file of the documents below correctly.

  • Recent passport photo of all travellers (jpg)
  • Copy of passport (front only) of all travellers (jpg)
  • Booking of outward and return flight (pdf)

You must submit a new application for each traveller, but you can use the same email address for different applications.

When you arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, keep your boarding pass at hand. This will be checked before you are allowed to enter the airport. If you have a visa, you can go straight to passport control (left) when you enter the arrival hall. Your Visa and arrival note (page 3) must be completed in full, and you must also sign it. Bringing plastic bags is prohibited, take as many unpacked items as possible or use a fabric or leather bag as hand luggage.
