Every year, more than 2 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle migrate through the Serengeti in search of grass and water, followed by predators such as lions and hyenas. The “Great Migration” is in a different part of the Serengeti each season. The absolute highlight is when the animals try to cross the Mara River. This natural phenomenon takes place between the months of July and October. By hundreds at a time, the wildebeest run through the water in which crocodiles lurk. Of course, not all of them make it across the river. In the spring, months of January through March, the birth wave takes place in the south, an average of 8,000 calves are born daily.
In the Serengeti, just before Naabi Hill gate is also the archaeological Olduvai Gorge where some of the oldest known human fossils were found in 1911 by a German professor.
