As of October 1, 2024, all travelers to Zanzibar are required to purchase additional travel insurance through the local insurance company (Zanzibar Insurance Corporation). This arrangement applies to everyone arriving on the island, regardless of whether you already have your own travel insurance.
HOW MUCH DOES THIS MANDATORY INSURANCE COST?
The cost of the Zanzibar Mandatory Travel Insurance is USD 44 per person.
The following rates apply to children:
- Children from 3 to 17 years receive a 50% discount
- Babies from 0 to 2 years are insured free of charge.
HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR INSURANCE?
Travel insurance must be applied for online before arriving in Zanzibar. This can be done individually, but also for families (from 3 to 9 people) or groups (10 or more people).
Applying is easy and can be done online via the official website: https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/
You will need the following information for the application:
- Name/personal details
- Passport information and photo of the passport page with biometric data
- Arrival and departure dates
After payment, you will receive a QR code that you must show upon arrival at the airport.
WHAT DOES THIS MANDATORY INSURANCE FOR ZANZIBAR COVER?
The basic coverage of this mandatory travel insurance includes emergency medical expenses, repatriation costs, personal accidents, delays, loss and theft of luggage, legal costs and personal liability.
