BIRDS IN TANZANIA

Readingtime: 2 minutes

Tanzania is a paradise for bird watchers! With more than 1,100 bird species, the country offers an enormous diversity of special birds that you can spot during your safari. โ

More than 30 bird species occur exclusively in Tanzania and new species are often discovered. Some birds are so rare that they have not been known for years.

Tourists can also enjoy the bird life in Tanzania. The abundance and variety of birds on safari is admirable.

Birds during your safari trip through Tanzania

Marabou

In Tanzania you can spot the Marabou, among other things. This large bird has a bald head and neck and is a common sight in the Serengeti.

Forktail Roller

The fork-tailed roller gets its name from its long, forked tail and the fact that it is a species of roller (a family of brightly colored, medium-sized birds in the order Rollerbirds).

The birds are often found in national parks and in acacia trees. They avoid human settlements.

Gray crowned crane

The beautiful gray crowned crane, also known as the crowned crane, is the only crane species in Tanzania.

Standing just over a meter tall, it graces the landscape with its blue-gray feathers. Black, white and maroon accents adorn its wings and it has a striking red wattle under its neck.

What distinguishes the crowned crane from other cranes is its striking, straw-colored crest, which adorns the top of its head like a work of art.

This crowned crane is also the only musical crane! It finds its nest high in the trees, close to the sound of water. However, it prefers to feed on wide open plains or in wooded areas.

He has a clever hunting method, where he stomps on the ground with powerful steps to chase the insects.
